The Embassy of Ireland in Ljubljana, Slovenia, is responsible for relations with the Republic of Slovenia, the Republic of Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Republic of Slovenia (Republika Slovenija)
The Republic of Slovenia is located between Italy, Croatia, Hungary and Austria in Southern Europe. With an area of 20,273 km and a population of 2 million people, it is the fifth smallest Member State of the EU. However, in 2008, it became the first of the Member States that joined the Union in 2004 to act as its Presidency.
The capital city of Slovenia is Ljubljana. Maribor is the second city. Other main towns are Celje and Kranj. Although a small country, Slovenia has a wide variety of geographical features, from alpine peaks (its highest point is Mount Triglav, at 2864 metres), to fertile plains to the East of the country and coastline to the West. Republic of Croatia (Republika Hrvatska)
The Republic of Croatia is a country on the Balkan peninsula of Southern Europe with an area of 56,542 square kilometres. It has a population of about 4.5million people. The capital of Croatia is Zagreb and other cities include Split, Rijeka and Osijek.
Croatia is a very popular a tourist destination, with famous sites such as Dubrovnik and the islands of Hvar and Korčula. Croatia has over 5000km of coastline. Croatia is not yet a member of the EU, but is working hard to join the Union in the next few years. Croatia has land a border with Slovenia, Serbia, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. Bosnia and Herzegovina (Bosna i Hercegovina/Босна и Херцеговина)
Bosnia and Herzegovina (often known as BiH, after the acronym in its own language) is a country on the Balkan peninsula of Southern Europe with an area of 51,129 square kilometres. It has a population of about 4 million people. The country is home to three ethnic "constituent peoples": Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats. The capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina is Sarajevo, and the other cities include Banja Luka, Mostar and Tuzla.
The name “Bosnia and Herzegovina” refers to the two regions/provinces of the country – Bosnia is the northern province, while Herzegovina is to the south of the country.
BiH borders Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro and has just 20km of coastline.
